So, I’ve recently committed to painting up a Sons of Horus force for 30K, a decision that was greatly helped by the release of a painting guide by Christoffer of the Dorn’s Arrow blog.
For those who haven’t seen it, you can find it here: https://dornsarrow.blogspot.com/2019/01/sons-of-horus-painting-tutorial.html
It’s an absolutely superb resource for all budding SoH collectors and the tutorial can be equally applied to painting all of the Space Marine Legions so be sure to take a look.
This was my first attempt at using an airbrush on 28mm miniatures and I was very happy at how these guys turned out – though I must admit that I shelled out for a Badger Sotar 20/20, which can make even a beginner look like they know what they’re doing. 😉
The paints I used to achieve the iconic sea-green colour were as follows:
Vallejo Model Air IJN DK. Deep Green (Base colour)
Vallejo Model Air Light Green (45°Zenithal highlight)
Vallejo Model Air Greyish Blue (90° Zenithal highlight)
VMA Greyish Blue : Vallejo Model Colour OffWhite (2:1 Edge highlight)
For more instruction on the finer points, check out the aforementioned link to the painting guide as I followed it pretty closely.
Thanks for looking!
